DATA CAREER ADVICE
THE BEST WAY TO USE KAGGLE DATASETS

You have datasets for 53 years straight

You already know that Kaggle is a great platform to practice your data skills. What nobody told you is how to correctly use the platform. I’m here to do just that.

Did you know that if you search for “Data Analysis” in Kaggle Datasets, you will find 19,000+ datasets available?
That’s crazy.

Why is this Important to You❓

Knowing how to get the best datasets will take your data analysis skills to the next level, as you will be able to do what 99% of people can’t.

How can You address this❓

Next time you’re thinking about using Kaggle, do this ⬇️

1. Find your niche: Don't just search for “Data analysis”. You should narrow it down to a specific topic. If you’re into healthcare analysis, there are only 2,600 + datasets. And if you search for “healthcare insurance expenses”, you’ll only find 10. That way, you'll work focused on just one goal.

2. Don’t fear messy data: Most people will tell you to only work with “gold” projects. I’m here to say that you shouldn’t. Investigating raw, dirty data is probably more relatable to what you will be doing as a data analyst than having a perfect dataset to work with.

3. Target a specific question: “What drove sales last quarter?” or “What are the 5 best-selling products?” These are analyses you could do. Companies want the ability to accurately predict and forecast future sales.

4. Identify what’s missing: When you find a dataset, reviewing what others have done is important to understand what has already been tried. Ask what others haven't considered.

5. Explore outside of your main scope: "One who knows only medicine doesn't truly know medicine at all.” As a Data Analyst, you need to find different ways to solve problems, which only comes with going over and above what others are willing to do. Make time to explore new domains, topics and datasets outside of your scope.

Do you want to know how I spend my day as a Data Analyst? I’ve covered it all in this video ⬇️

The good things about Data Analysis

Being a Data Analyst has its pros and cons, but overall, I find it to be one of the best jobs if you’re seeking continuous learning and a balanced work-life environment.

Why is this Important to You❓

Understanding the benefits of becoming a Data Analyst will help you form an opinion about whether this job is right for you.

How can You address this❓

Below are three good reasons to become a Data Analyst ⬇️

  1. Competitive Compensation: As a general rule-of-thumb, it’s a job that comes with a very high pay.

  2. Opportunities for Advancement: As long as you have strong data analysis foundations and a commitment to continuous learning.
